Hot on the heels of our first ever Jura tasting recently, I am pleased to offer the thrilling wines of Domaine de Montbourgeau. Based in the tiny Jura commune of L’Étoile, brothers César and Baptiste Deriaux have brought a new lease of life to this well-established estate, and it is one to have on your radar.
Order by midday on Tuesday 14th July
The joy of the Jura is that it is a region thriving with biodiversity and although Montbourgeau have 30 hectares, only ten hectares are planted to vineyards. They have crops, cattle and forests surrounding their vines and as you walk through the vineyards you see many birds, butterflies and wildflowers bringing life to the property.
Nicole Deriaux, mother to César and Baptiste, was committed to tradition and focused mainly on the sous-voile styles (under a yeast layer, with a nutty and salty profile akin to sherry). César, having worked at several Burgundian estates, has been keen to develop the ouillé styles (topped-up barrels to avoid oxidation) at the estate, as well as focusing on a terroir and single-vineyard approach. I am delighted to be able to offer you a mix of ouillé and sous-voile styles as well as a vin de paille (a sweet wine made with grapes dried on racks in a ventilated loft) that are sure to capture the hearts of those that drink them.
