The Fontodi Estate in Panzano, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, is rightly recognised as one of the world’s greatest producers, and the source of this stunning Chianti Classico. Owner and winemaker Giovanni Manetti’s Chianti Classico is one of the all-time best-value fine wines, approachable on release but a wonderful wine to age as well. The brilliant 2021 vintage is just being shipped, and this is the first time we have offered it as a First Release. Aged for at least 18 months in French oak casks, we have it in both bottles and magnums for you to enjoy this year, or over the next decade and beyond.

Giovanni has an incredible respect for tradition but is also an innovator and embracer of modern techniques. His mature, organically farmed vines sit in the enviable Conca d’Oro (‘golden shell’), an amphitheatre of sun-soaked vineyards to the south-west of the village of Panzano. Lying at 400 metres above sea level, relatively high for Chianti, they are well placed to ensure that that the fruit has fresh acidity to balance its richness. Always popular with members, we are delighted to offer a first release of this remarkable wine.
