Paul Jaboulet Aîné are one of the top names of the northern Rhône, owning some of the most sought-after plots within the legendary Hermitage vineyard. They have some of the largest vineyard holdings here, allowing them to carefully select and blend fruit from prestigious lieux-dits (plots) and create these exclusive Hermitage red and white wines from the charming 2023 vintage. I am thrilled to be able to offer our members this exclusive bottling at a very affordable price for such a famed vineyard, and from a standout, premium producer.
Order by midday on Monday 27th July
This steep, south-facing granitic slope is relatively small, with only 137 hectares total that are largely planted to syrah, with a small percentage of white grapes (marsanne and viognier) both of which can produce some incredibly ageworthy wines. The lieux-dits within the slope have markedly different soils, with influences of sand, clay, limestone, loess and alluvial stones. Along with their unique microclimates, the wines can vary stylistically depending on where the grapes are sourced from. For these exclusive bottlings, the red comes from parcels in Grandes Dionnières, Marcou and Petite Vigne and the white comes from Muret Bas.
The 2023 vintage was warm and sunny but didn’t experience the prolonged and intense heat or drought conditions felt in 2022. Juicier and more fruit forward in style compared to the cooler 2024 vintage, the 2023s are in a very enjoyable stage, but as with any Hermitage, well worth cellaring to experience the wine in all its glory. No one else has access to these exceptional wines. Don’t miss them.
