Abel 'Moutere' Single Vineyard, Nelson Chardonnay 2023
A very special wine, and one that feels all the more compelling for its rarity and story. The inaugural 2023 Moutere single-vineyard chardonnay from Abel opens with citrus oil, white peach, sea salt and a gentle struck-match note, leading to a poised, finely textured palate with real depth. This tiny estate focuses solely on chardonnay, a decision that shows in the precision here. Mark and Sophie McGill only agree to release their single-vineyard wine to wine merchants who have visited them in Nelson, making this a true insider’s bottle and only available through The Wine Society in the UK. Abel was built on foundations laid with the help of Sophie’s father, the late James Healy of Dog Point and promises to be one of the great names of New Zealand's new era.
