Álvaro Castro Reserva Tinto, Dão 2022

Red Wine from Portugal - Dao
0 star rating 0 Reviews
Fresh and vibrant, this blend of alfrocheiro, touriga nacional and tinta roriz shows ripe dark fruits and hints of forest berries on the nose, leading to a palate that balances generosity with precision. The fruit is pure and expressive, with a savoury edge and fine structure supporting the wine through a poised, elegant finish that is very much in keeping with Álvaro Castro’s refined style. Castro revived his family’s winemaking tradition at Quinta da Pellada in 1980, releasing his first wine in 1989. Today he works alongside his daughter Maria, guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention and a deep respect for nature, allowing each vineyard parcel to do the talking. The Dão region itself plays a crucial role in shaping this character. Inland and set on a plateau, the vineyards are sheltered on all sides by mountain ranges that temper Atlantic influence. Warm days and cool nights at altitude help to produce wines of freshness, elegance and real finesse.
