In our latest episode of Book & Bottle Club we welcome wine expert, TV presenter and author Olly Smith who joins us to talk about his debut novel, Death by Noir.

A member of The Wine Society since his 21st birthday, many will recognise Olly from BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen every fortnight as the show’s resident drinks expert. Author of eight books on wine and spirits, this is Olly’s first novel (published 17 June)

In this episode, Olly talks to wine buyer, Freddy Bulmer about the inspiration behind Death by Noir; a ‘wine/crime’ cosy thriller set in the Sussex village of Lewes. The conversation explores the crossover between wine and storytelling and how Olly’s experience in the wine trade helped shape the book’s setting and characters.

Olly has selected three wines to pair with Death by Noir – all of which feature in his book:

NZ15931 Neudorf Tiritiri Nelson Chardonnay 2023 £18.50

EN2391 Danbury Ridge Pinot Noir £40

BJ11211 Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud, Morgon ‘Côte du Py’ £19
