Château Potensac, Médoc 2015

2.000000000 star rating 1 Reviews
With elegant blueberry fruit and fine, grainy tannins, this is an excellent Potensac vintage. Rightfully considered the top wine from the Médoc appellation, Potensac is under the same ownership as Léoville-Las-Cases and the same care and attention goes into its production.

Château Potensac

Situated in the northern Médoc between Blaignan and Ordonnac, the Cru Bourgeois Potensac estate sits among an 84 hectare expanse of vines spread across hilly ground where there is a good deal of gravel amid the limestone and clay.

The Delon family, who also own Château Léoville Las Cases in Saint-Julien and Château Nenin in Pomerol, have been in possession of the estate for generations. Jean-Hubert Delon took over the running of the estate in 2000 when his father Michel died and has continued the steady progression in quality.

Indeed there are many who believe that Potensac is now making wines of classed-growth quality and it has earned a reputation as a wine capable of ageing well over many years.

The vineyards consist of 48% merlot, 36% cabernet sauvignon, 15% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. All are hand harvested and vinified in concrete or stainless-steel vats under temperature control before spending time in barriques for 12-16 months, 20% new, before being bottled without filtration.
