Château Pibran

A Cru Bourgeois estate in Pauillac that punches above its weight in quality terms, Pibran has been owned by the AXA group since 1987.

Along with their extensive holdings elsewhere in Bordeau AXA have invested heavily here, improving everything from the vineyards to chai. In 2001 they also extended the property by buying vineyard from their neighbours. There are now 17 hectares of vines on a gravelly bank planted to a high density and with a higher than usual number of merlot vines for a Pauillac property.

The wine itself is made in stainless steel at the winery of another AXA-owned estate, Château Pichon-Baron, before being returned to Pibran for barrel-ageing in their chai. 50% of the French oak used is new and the wine sees 12 to 15 months of maturation in wood before bottling.
