New Vintage
Crémant de Limoux Cuvée Eugénie, Antech 2024
Sparkling Wine from France - Languedoc
An elegant, refined dry sparkler from the Languedoc, where the first sparkling wines were made in 1531. Chardonnay and chenin dominate the blend, and there is a lovely stream of bubbles to seduce and enliven the palate. Seven generations of the Antech family have been making wine in Limoux, but today their organic vineyards are the result of a remarkable rebuild over the last 20 years. After losing its historic vineyard holdings, the family gradually pieced together a new 39-hectare estate, complemented by a close-knit group of long-standing grower partners. Their philosophy is simple: get things right in the vineyard and there should be less to do in the cellar. In a region where irrigation is not allowed, that means working with the climate rather than against it, including trialling rootstocks and grape varieties better suited to a warmer future. We also like Antech’s local approach to vineyard nutrition: grape skins, seeds and stems are composted just a few kilometres away and returned to the vines. It’s thoughtful, practical, winemaking, rooted in generations of family experience and a deep connection to the land.
