Criadera Palo Cortado en Rama, Barbadillo

Sherry from Spain - Andalusia
4.800000000 star rating 5 Reviews
Palo cortado starts life as fino, but loses the protective layer of flor yeast that settles on the surface of the wine. The resulting exposure to oxygen deepens and matures the wine, boosting flavour and alcohol. This has a beguiling bouquet of hazelnuts, citrus and antique furniture, with refreshing, lifted and highly complex fruit on the finish.

Very pale golden tawny. Almost paler than the Amontillado version? Lots of nutty tanginess and seductive quality. From the cellar in which there is century-old Palo Cortado. Pungent, delicate and gorgeous. High toned with more obvious acidity and energy than the Amontillado. Transparent and racy. Long, too! Very good value. JancisRobinson.com
