En Arhi Cabernet Franc, Makarounas Winery 2025

0 star rating 0 Reviews
This cabernet franc was planted by accident over 35 years ago by Theodoros Makarounas' father, who thought he was planting cabernet sauvignon! A little bit of an anomaly bearing in mind the estate's focus on indigenous grapes, but you can see why Theo likes to produce this delightful red. Amazing red berry perfume and florals are balanced with blood orange and pink grapefruit citrus and fine tannins. Makarounas is a family estate based in Paphos, Cyprus and was only set up in 2016, previously selling grapes locally but building a strong reputation for itself since then. The only winery in Cyprus to sell wine from 100% estate-owned grapes, they have been part of the new wave of growers working largely with indigenous varieties. Their soils are complex with crystal gypsum and white chalk and quartz and they are situated at 600 metres altitude that gives the wines great freshness. Thanks to low pH levels, they use minimal sulphur during winemaking and bottling. Theodoros is winning awards for his wines, thanks to the care and attention in the vineyard and winery.
