Wines included
The Society's Exhibition DO Colchagua Andes Carmenère 2019
This Chilean carmenère is made on a coolish spot for this variety to make a more drinkable style. This is an intensely flavoured wine with a ripe yet fresh palate of black fruit and notes of clove and black pepper.
The Society's Exhibition Fleurie 2020
Our most popular cru Beaujolais by some considerable distance, this is attractive, floral Fleurie – in keeping with its name – with intensely perfumed aromas and a ripe yet fresh palate.
The Society's Exhibition Haut-Médoc 2014
This approachable yet cellar-worthy Bordeaux is a blend of almost equal parts cabernet sauvignon and merlot, with just under 10% petit verdot adding a hint of spice on the palate. From Château Beaumont, this is unmistakably Médoc but with easy, ripe tannins ensuring plenty of drinking pleasure.
The Society's Exhibition Langhe Nebbiolo 2018
One of the stars of the Wine Champions tasting this year, this new Exhibition wine is made entirely from Barbaresco-certified vineyards, but from younger vines. It was its glorious bright cherry, raspberry and rose-petal perfume that first drew unanimous nods and collective enthusiasm, while its firm but fresh palate offers lively liquorice-like notes. Elegant and extremely impressive for the price.
The Society's Exhibition New Zealand Chardonnay 2019
A single-vineyard wine made exclusively for us by chardonnay specialists Kumeu River. 2019 was a superb New Zealand vintage and this is looking excellent, with a touch of struck match and vanilla on the nose and green apple and citrus peel on the palate. An International Wine Challenge and Decanter World Wine Awards silver medal winner in 2021.
The Society's Exhibition Pouilly-Fuissé 2019
Powerful wine from southern Burgundy which is firm and muscular. It was matured in barrel for a year until smooth and round.
The Society's Exhibition Rheingau Riesling 2019
Rheingau rieslings were popular in Victorian times and early Society Lists featured several. We asked leading producer Gunter Künstler to provide a modern take on this classic style. Clean lines, fruit and lovely length of flavour and a must with South-East Asian cooking.
The Society's Exhibition Saint-Aubin Blanc 2019
The cool and narrow Saint-Aubin valley has benefitted from global warming. It used to struggle to ripeness. Now it is ripe yet fresh. Matured in oak for about a year, this lovely white Burgundy is made from Le Ban vineyard fruit.
The Society's Exhibition Victoria Shiraz 2019
This Society exclusive comes from Mt Langi Ghiran's vineyard, which sits against a stunning backdrop of the Great Dividing Range in Australia. Extra ripe and full-bodied in 2019 due to a particularly hot, dry vintage, this will appeal most to lovers of big, generous red wines. Cassis, cocoa and spice on the nose continue on the palate.
The Society's Exhibition Chenin Blanc, Western Cape 2020
Our second vintage from the highly regarded cellar of Chris Alheit made from offcuts from his premium range of chenin blancs, still young and a little more discreet in this fine South African vintage.
The Society's Exhibition Soave 2020
We are delighted that Pieropan made this exclusive and delicious Soave for us this year. A blend of 80% garganega from a vineyard just above Calvarino, in the western (warmer) part of Soave with 20% trebbiano di Soave from the Monte Tondo vineyard that neighbours La Rocca. Peach, preserved lemon and chalk flavours are well balanced in this classy Italian white..
The Society's Exhibition Douro 2019
Sweet, plush and fragrant, with Quinta do Vale Meão's typical fragrance and elegance backed by Douro structure.Quinta do Vale Meão estate is in the Upper Douro (Douro Superior), bought in 1877 by the legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, who transformed the upper Douro and is widely recognised for the success of the Port trade at that time. The estate is still owned and run by her descendants, the Olazabal family, and today it is at the forefront of fine red wine production in the this famous Portuguese region.
