José Gil San Vicente de la Sonsierra Rioja 2024
A rising start in Rioja, young couple José and Vicky Gil are making some of the region’s most exciting and vibrant terroir-driven Riojas. The vineyards for the Vino de Pueblo sit right a the foot-hills of the Sierra Cantabria mountain range starting at 500m altitude, blending three of their prized plots. Made with tempranillo, 20% garnacha and a splash of viura, the wine is co-fermented and aged for 10 months in a mix of concrete and used large French oak. José and Vicky are amazing at capturing purity, retaining freshness and aromatics with electric energy from the limestone and sandy soils. A gorgeous profile of bluebells, mint, with juicy dark fruit framed by satin-like tannins. Open, perfumed and utterly delicious.
