Familie Mantler Gemischter Satz, Niederösterreich 2025
We know what you drank last summer… and it’s back! And it's a 2026 Wine Champion to boot. The new vintage of this barnstormingly popular, delicately spritzy Austrian white has won our buyers' blind tasting yet again. With its ‘refreshing, sparky acidity’, ‘exuberant, vibrant fruit’ and low alcohol, it’s an absolute peach of a wine.
The Society's Claret 2024
This friendly and fresh-tasting claret is one of The Wine Society`s most consistently popular wines. Supplied for over a quarter of a century by family-owned Maison Sichel, the bespoke blend varies from vintage to vintage, but merlot takes the lead role, and the wine is made without any oak to avoid masking its bright, red and black-fruit flavours. This is made to be drunk young, on its own or with a wide variety of dishes. The label for this perennial favourite shows three muses that can also be seen on the Grand Theatre opera house in Bordeaux itself.
Duo Des Mers Sauvignon-Viognier, Vin de France 2025
Fragrant, fruity, full-flavoured southern French white, the happy marriage of two worlds with crisp sauvignon coming from Gascony and full-bodied, peachy viognier coming from Languedoc.
Cantoiseau Blanc, Vin de France 2025
‘Like biting into a Granny Smith apple’, this southern French zinger jumped out at our Wine Champions tasters with its ‘sherbetty acidity, freshness and crunch.’ One noted that ‘people who like sauvignon blanc are going to love this.’ And what a great price, too.
Cantoiseau Rouge, Vin de France 2025
A well-rounded, soft, fruity red from the Languedoc. There's a touch of spice that creates a little complexity. Great value.
Pinot Noir ‘Pure Vallée’, Vin de France, Famille Bougrier 2025
Popular well-rounded Loire pinot, light and fresh, with bright, red-berry and cherry fruit. Best served on the cooler side, this is an easy-drinking lunchtime red.
The Society's Loire Sauvignon Blanc 2025
Blended from across the Loire in the warm 2025 vintage The Society's Loire Sauvignon is crisp and refreshing with soft stonefruit, grapefruit, and passionfruit notes without the overt herbaceousness of cooler vintages. Produced by longstanding partners Bougrier this is easy drinking, juicy, and lemony with hints of bay leaf and grapefruit, with part of the fruit sourced from Touraine, giving chalky character. Great with fresh fish or as an aperitif.
Beaujolais, Domaine Desgranges 2025
This easy-going and fruity Beaujolais is bursting with strawberry, black cherry and violet aromas. From a 10-hectare estate in the south of Beaujolais, Domaine Desgranges is a long-term partner of Aujoux, who make our Society's Beaujolais Villages and our Exhibition wines. Fermented primarily via the semi-carbonic maceration method, this is perfumed and juicy with supple tannins - uncomplicated, delicious spring drinking.
Lascar Classic Carmenère 2025
This Chilean carmenère is a good entry-level example of this variety, with its black-pepper nose and ripe, juicy and succulent palate.
Periquita Branco, Setúbal 2025
Periquita is one of the most historic and popular wine names in Portugal and is owned by the excellent estate, José Maria da Fonseca. The white, made from sauvignon blanc, verdelho, viosinho and viognier, is a superb example of the deliciousness and genuine personality that Portugal's wines offer even under £8 a bottle. This is a fresh, easy-going blend which is lifted and inviting on the nose, with vibrant white berries, citrus peel and delicate floral notes, plus a gentle blossom-like perfume. Dry, crisp and mouthwatering on the palate, it starts with a clean, zesty snap before a subtle, appetising hint of tonic bitterness adds extra refreshment and makes it particularly moreish. A twist of green apple and bright herbaceousness builds on the finish. A delicious, aromatic and refreshing crowd-pleaser, it’s easy going and authentically Portuguese.
Orélie Blanc 10, Vignerons Ardéchois 2025
A wine from the Ardèche in the northernmost part of the southern Rhône, this white is only 10% alcohol with juicy core that is balanced by the wine's vibrant acidity. Expect citrus, fleshy peach and pink grapefruit aromas. It comes from a co-operative that is highly regarded for producing consistently good-value, enjoyable wines .
Un Amour de Cinsault, Chateau Beaubois 2025
From an estate in the Costières de Nîmes, in the southern Rhône, the Boyer family have produced a lively and easy to drink red that is fresh and immediately appealing. Light bodied, this will be delightful served slightly chilled. Bright red cherries, strawberries and raspberry notes with a fine tannin grip, this will pair perfectly with tomato-based dishes.
