Liverpool - 150th Celebration Lunch
Join us in Liverpool at the impressive Royal Liver Building to enjoy limited-edition wines from seven of our finest producers with featured guest speaker Paul Brajkovich of Kumeu River, Auckland, New Zealand.
This lunch is one of seven simultaneous events across the country to celebrate our anniversary with our biggest member lunch ever!
Please note: The ballot for this event closed on 16th February 2024 and was drawn on 19th February. We are contacting all members who were in the ballot, both successful and unsuccessful.
The Wine Society has become famous for their Member Lunches. In fact, lunch parties to share wines that had been co-operatively purchased were exactly how The Wine Society was founded in 1874.
So, to celebrate our 150th anniversary year, it seems entirely fitting that we host our largest-ever simultaneous member lunch, with multiple locations and an online option, too.
Each event will feature the same four-course meal, and showcase the same exclusive, limited-edition anniversary wines. However, the key difference is that each location will have one of the seven speakers, with a Society buyer each hosting a particular event. The wines from the other six producers will be introduced by video, but the wine from the winemaker attending each location will be introduced live.
This lunch will feature live guest speaker, Paul Brajkovich of pioneering New Zealand producer, Kumeu River
Wines to be tasted at all locations are:
A vintage Champagne from Alfred Gratien
A special Chardonnay from Kumeu River
A classic Barolo from Ciabot Berton
An aged Gran Reserva Rioja from CVNE
An aged Argentinian blend from Weinert
A textbook Sauternes from Doisy Daëne
And a Vintage Port from the Symington stable
The winemaker attending each location is as follows:
Alfred Gratien at Cardiff
Kumeu River at Liverpool
Ciabot Berton at Oxford
CVNE at London
Weinert at Glasgow
Doisy Daëne at Birmingham
Symington Family Estates at Cambridge
