Llopart Original 1887 Brut Nature Gran Reserva, Corpinnat 2011

5.000000000 star rating 1 Reviews
Fascinating Spanish wine of great aromatic depth and complexity. A high-altitude single-vineyard blend dominated by the lesser-known montònega grape and more than 108 months(!) on its yeast lees. Remarkable complexity with doughy, toasted notes, held together by remarkable freshness and length.

The Llopart family has been cultivating vines since the 14th century and was the co-founder of the corpinnat label. This is a fine example, dominated by the little-known montònega grape, along with macabeo and xarel·lo, a full nine years on its lees gives remarkable depth and complexity. Creamy layers of peachy fruit, roast nuts and warm pastry finishing with a zesty freshness.

You're not alone if you have never heard of the Montònega grape variety that makes up 50% of this wine. This choice reflects the larger philosophy of Corpinnat producer Llopart, with its ongoing research on local varieties and relentless attention to detail. Having spent 108 months on the lees, there's wonderful depth and complexity here, with meaty walnuts and roasted almonds over fleshy peach, apricot and quince. A creamy layer of lemon curd and strudel rests weighty on the mid-palate. Albeit mature it preserves remarkable freshness, driven by a firm zesty acid line. Delicious.
