Moulin-à-Vent La Vigne de Mon Père, Elisa Guerin 2023

Red Wine from France - Beaujolais
4.600000000 star rating 15 Reviews
Unfined, unfiltered and with only minimal SO₂, this is a pure, honest and earthy expression of Burgundian-style gamay. On the nose, it’s all crushed raspberries and violets, juicy yet composed, with supple red fruit, fine tannins, and an earthy edge on the palate that is refreshingly unadorned and unmistakably moreish. Elisa, fourth generation and daughter of Philippe Guerin, is now at the helm of Famille Guerin, whose holdings include some of the region’s most coveted terroirs. Since taking over in 2018, she’s been turning heads with a fresh vision and thoughtful approach to producing fine Beaujolais. La Vigne de mon Père comes from one of the family’s old plots, on loam and granite soils flecked with limestone. Elisa places biodiversity and soil health at the heart of her work, embracing a hands-off philosophy in the cellar.

A wine of great virtuosity, with subtle notes of rose amidst the usual redcurrants.

A new vintage rather than a 'new' wine per se, but this exquisite Moulin-à-Vent was by some distance the most impressive of the three Beaujolais on show at the tasting, a wine of seamless, silk-sheen softness and slinkiness with high-definition perfectly ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit.

As prices of the best pinot noir red wines in Burgundy continue to climb, the still-underrated gamay reds of neighbouring Beaujolais become increasingly compelling, none more so than those made by Elisa Guerin, including this serenely beautiful, harmoniously red-fruited and feathery-tannin-ed expression from Moulin-à-Vent.

As prices of the best pinot noir in Burgundy continue to climb, the still - underrated Beaujolais gamay becomes more compelling, none more so than this serene, red - fruited and lighttannin expression.

Unfined, unfiltered and fermented and aged in concrete, this is a stunning Beaujolais Cru from Elisa Guerin, the kind of wine that showcases the brightness, energy and vivacity of the best Gamays from the northern part of the region. Elegant, nuanced and hauntingly perfumed, it combines aromas of rose petal and violet with a racy raspberry and pomegranate palate and a spicy undertone from whole bunch fermentation.
