Richard Rottiers comes from a winegrowing family from Chablis, rather than Beaujolais, but has established his own domaine in Moulin-à-Vent where he now farms 12 hectares, working organically since 2012. His whole range impresses with its freshness, purity and seemingly effortless balance but his Les Thorins – one of the most famous, long-lived of the lieux-dits of Moulin-à-Vent – is especially compelling. With rich, dense red-plum and hedgerow fruit, this is bracingly fresh, with powdery, finely gripping tannins and a long, harmonious finish. That Richard packs so much intensity and density into this wine at just 12% alcohol is testament to his highly attentive farming and the venerable deep-rooting old vines with which he is working.
