Prophet's Rock Central Otago Pinot Gris 2024
White Wine from New Zealand - Central Otago
A bit of a cult-hero wine for Prophet's Rock, the nose of this pinot gris shows honey and ginger with delicious notes of peaches and apricots. The palate is textural, with great depth of juicy pure fruit. Notes of mango and lime complement each other and are held together with a beautifully pure and vibrant acidity. Doubtless one of the best examples of the grape in the world. Prophet's Rock is one of the great small estates of Central Otago, run by Paul Pujol. Pujol has previously worked in Burgundy and Oregon as well as Alsace. The former two have something to do with his mastery of pinot noir, perhaps the most famous variety for this cool climate New Zealand region, however his affinity for varieties such as pinot gris and riesling doubtless stem from his time working in the latter.
