Quinta da Pedra Alta Branco Reserva, Douro 2024
White Wine from Portugal - Douro Valley
Though the Douro Valley is famous for Port, its still wines are among Portugal’s most exciting and characterful. This is a brilliant example. Sourced from the estate’s highest vineyards, this barrel-fermented white shows that the Douro can produce wines of depth and vibrancy. The challenging 2023 vintage saw a moderate summer encourage slow, steady ripening. Careful vineyard management ensured only the best fruit was pressed. The nose is seductive and expressive, brimming with citrus fruits, pear, and toasty nectarine, alongside a delicate nuttiness from barrel ageing. The palate is where this wine truly shines; long, textured, and beautifully balanced, with layers of citrus, stone fruit, and tropical notes underpinned by lively acidity and a savoury complexity. It's a serious white drinking beautifully now, but it will evolve gracefully over the next few years. Decant to bring out its full character and pair with salt-baked sea bass (peixe ao sal), grilled seafood, saffron and citrus-infused risotto or roast chicken. A versatile, world-class white wine.
