Rall Grenache Noir, Swartland 2025
Red Wine from South Africa - Coastal Region
The second vintage of this delicious, dynamic red from Donovan Rall who, while no stranger to working with grenache noir, had never bottled it as a single varietal wine for his Rall label until the 2024 vintage. Donovan is seeking balance here, ‘not a light, hipster style or a too-ripe style,’ with the 2025 is not as firmly structured as its predecessor; he consciously moved to a shorter skin maceration meaning this is approachable and gorgeous sooner. Entirely whole bunch fermented again, expressive aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and rosemary lead to a juicy red-berry-fruited palate with fine, supple tannins. This comes from a one-hectare block planted on the Eikelaan farm in the Paardeberg for Donovan, now about ten years' old.
