Rioja Reservas Trio
Wines included
Muga Reserva, Rioja 2022
A powerful yet classy reserva from the Muga family, with pristine, ripe fruit and softly rounded tannins. The 2022 is balanced and complex, capturing all the hallmarks of a fine Rioja, with plenty of sweet spice, and succulent dark-berry fruit. Based in the old railway quarter of Haro, Muga is a fine old bodega, with its own cooperage. Indeed we believe Muga is making some of the very best Rioja available today.
La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva, Rioja 2020
Ardanza is La Rioja Alta’s consistently elegant, complex and traditional cuvée, the 2020 being no exception. Despite being a hot year, the vintage benefited from the cooling effect of the rain that fell just before harvest.Tempranillo is blended with 20% garnacha from the Oriental, aged for three years in American oak barrels, of which 20% is new – bringing layers of sweet spice, smoke and toast to this silky, sinewy fruit bomb that will continue to develop in bottle. An absolute classic for fans of traditional Rioja.
Bodegas Classica Reserva, López de Haro, Rioja 2016
A brand new cuvée from López de Haro, renowned for releasing mature wines to market, this exceptional 10-year-old reserva comes from the famed 2016 vintage. Modelled on the most classic traditional Rioja style, the blend is 85% tempranillo and 15% graciano, sourced from 45- to 80-year-old bush-trained vineyards in and around San Vicente de la Sonsierra. It delivers everything you could want from a traditional Rioja at remarkable value, with aromas of fine leather, sweet Morello cherry and subtle spice layered over deep, brooding black fruit. Incredibly silky on the palate yet still full of energy and poise, it is ready to enjoy now while retaining the structure and balance to evolve gracefully for years to come. Bravo!
