The Society's Exhibition Cava Gran Reserva 2022
A fine aged, complex cava that has spent 30 months on its yeast lees, plus another year in bottle. It beautifully highlights the remarkable quality-to-value ratio cava can offer, with elegant biscuity and citrus notes complemented by ripe apple flavours. Sumarocca’s commitment to sustainability is nothing new and we’re delighted to name them as one of our Wine Society’s Pioneers. Their conversion to organic farming began in 2014 and they’re also SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) certified since 2022, with an in-house annual sustainability report covering all environment and social aspects, including their carbon footprint, reducing it by 36%. Their drip irrigation system is computer controlled, and only for young vines, and they have a wastewater management system that recovers water from the winery, with 87,480 litres recovered in 2025. A herd of sheep provides 'mowing services' and manure, while all kinds of critters are encouraged by the forest that covers 50% of their estate, with beehives and bat boxes are installed, the latter providing handy and very effective pest control.
Sumarroca Letargia Cava Gran Reserva Brut Nature 2014
An exceptionally classy Cava which is aged for a staggering ten years on its yeast lees and disgorged with zero dosage. The result is a style that is graceful and subtle yet complex and textured with wonderful bready and nutty aromas, citrus tension, and honeysuckle with a real sense of momentum and clarity. A traditional blend of Cava grapes from the Sumarocca family's own vineyards.
Art Laieta d'Alta Alella Cava Gran Reserva Brut Nature 2020
A stunning, terroir-driven fine sparkling wine from the Alella appellation, located just north of Barcelona and apart from the better-known Penedès region. A blend of pansa blanca (xarel-lo), chardonnay and pinot noir, it shows impressive tension, with subtle red-fruit notes from the pinot alongside citrus fruit and salinity, layered with hints of white peach and honey. Light yet complex, it’s an incredibly charming wine, very much a fine wine in its own right, and a compelling discovery within the often underrated world of cava. The distinctive bottle shape and the name 'Laietà' pay tribute to the ancient Laietan people who once inhabited this coastal area, with the form itself echoing Roman amphorae, a nod to the history and individuality of this unique corner of the Cava appellation.
Celler del Roure Les Danses Blanc de Mandó, Valencia 2023
A truly unique and totally Valencian sparkling wine made from 100% near extinct grape, mando. Made in the ancestral method, it is dry and whistle-clean with lovely dried rose and wild herbs, citrus and strawberry fruit with a fine creamy mousse with a hint of leesy complexity. Please note that the vintage of this wine is shown incorrectly as 2024 in some of our printed literature. 2023 is the correct vintage as shown here. Please accept our apologies for any confusion this may have caused .
Mastinell Brut Real Cava Gran Reserva 2018
A long-aged Gran Reserva cava from a small producer that rose to prominence in 1997, when this cuvée was selected blind to be served at the royal wedding banquet of Infanta Cristina of Spain. Exceptional value for a wine of such finesse, it is made from the classic cava blend of macabeu, xarel-lo and parellada, sourced from fifty-year-old organically farmed bush vines. Toasty and complex, with notes of white peach, pine, brown butter and roasted lime, it remains focused and precise throughout.
Miquel Pons Montargull Suro Cava Gran Reserva Brut Nature 2022
An amazing find from a recent visit to the region, with vanilla spice, toasted sourdough and floral aromatics with incredible tension and length. So precise and vivacious, a very fine wine indeed. Certainly among the rising stars of the region, three cousins, Miquel, Joan and Pere started producing their own wines from their vineyards in 1992 and are making waves with a fierce dedication to organics and sustainability. This rewarding, barrel-fermented blend, led by xarel-lo, comes from a single vineyard of bush vines planted in 1950 and sees ageing under cork rather than crown cap, which adds to its aromatic complexity.
