Wine Champions Italy Mixed Case
Wines included
Sangiovese-Primitivo Cielo Via Mare, Puglia 2024
A Wine Champion for 2026 and what a bargain. A cunning mix of sangiovese’s freshness and primitivo’s ripeness, this is a ‘hug in a wine glass… instantly appealing, ripe but still fresh.’ Its juicy red-cherry and strawberry fruit will shine with summery Italian fare.
The Society's Sicilian Reserve Red 2022
Save £20 per case. Our members love this bold yet balanced nero d'Avola, and its winning performance in our 2026 Wine Champions tastings showed why. ‘Soft, full and ripe’ with ‘plump black fruit and a hint of coffee’, it performs a brilliant balancing act between fruity generosity and oak-influenced spice and structure. Brilliant value. Thanks to the generous support of our supplier, we’re delighted to offer this wine with a case saving of £20 per 12 bottles until 11.59pm on Friday 24th July.
The Society's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2024
A 2026 Wine Champion, this cherry-laden Italian favourite is now made for us by Contesa, whose above-and-beyond efforts in sustainability have earned them a place in our new Society’s Pioneers range. ‘Pure charm’ was the verdict here – if you haven’t tried it since it switched to its new source, we think you’ll like it! One of our Wine Society Pioneers, Contesa is rated in the top 100 most sustainable companies by their local government agency. They use pheromones to confuse local vine moths when they're mating as an alternative to chemical pest control, encourage wildflowers and grasses to attract pollinators and built a solar power plant on their winery roof which currently generates 50kW and covers 60% of their energy needs, and plan to build another 30kW of panels that will bring this up to 80%. Furthermore, Contesa use bottles produced entirely within Italy and of at least 58% recycled glass to reduce their carbon footprint.
Passerina Abruzzo, Contesa 2025
One of several superb Italian whites that sailed to Wine Champions victory in 2026, this is made from Abruzzo’s unusual passerina grape. ‘Subtly herbaceous and citrusy’, it’s ‘vibrant with stony minerality’, has ‘weight of fruit but without heaviness’ and ‘tastes more expensive than it is.’ Well worth a try.
Vermentino Sicilia, Mandrarossa 2025
Our Wine Champions tasters summed it up perfectly as it swept to victory in our 2026 tastings: ‘Peachy, lemony, charming and easy-drinking. This would be lovely served chilled on a nice sunny day – preferably in Italy.’ Need we add anything more? Enjoy!
Monopolio Pinot Grigio delle Venezie, Cantina di Gambellara 2025
A cracking Italian white that triumphed in our 2026 Wine Champions blind tasting. ‘I like its precision,’ said one taster, while another was taken by its ‘tangy pineapple and lemon fruit.’ Another noted it has ‘great freshness and structure.’ High praise, high marks, highly recommended.
