The Homegrown Heroes Case
Wines included
East London Liquor Company London Dry Gin
Made at the site of a renovated former-glue factory in London's East End (as charmingly illustrated by the 'dead horse' label!), Alex Wolpert – who founded the company in 2013 – makes this gin to a classic London Dry recipe. With a vibrant juniper bouquet and pink-grapefruit flavours developing on the palate, this is a very appealing and fresh-tasting gin. Great for a simple, but decadent, G&T.
Glenfarclas Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 10 year old, 40%
A balanced, approachable taste featuring notes of dried fruit, creamy toffee, and subtle smoke. This, often award-winning, Highland malt is considered an ideal, elegant aperitif.
Nyetimber Classic Cuvée Brut NV
Nyetimber's multi-vintage wine is a full-flavoured, savoury standard-bearer. Predominantly chardonnay alongside pinots noir and meunier, the blend is aged for more than three years on its yeast lees to add extra complexity and class.
The Newt No3 Yarlington Mill Cyder, Somerset 2020 (5%, 750ml)
Wonderfully balanced, authentic and polished Somerset cider made from yarlington mill apples, which are prized among cider lovers. This has aromas of red fruit, apricot, pastry and sweet spices. The palate is textural and fresh, with a hint of subtle sweetness but crisp and refreshing. Complex, long and food-friendly.
Simpsons 'Rabbit Hole' Pinot Noir, Kent 2020
English pinot noir seems to be getting better and better, and this single vineyard example from the outstanding 2020 vintage is one of the best. Using Burgundian clones the wine has spent four months in second use French oak resulting in a pure, cranberry and strawberry-led pinot with smoky spice notes. Wonderful.
Simpsons 'The Roman Road' Chardonnay, Kent 2020
Simpsons in Kent are producing some of the finest examples of chardonnay in the UK, and this is their 'Premier Cru'. Their single-vineyard Roman Road is fermented in a combination of French oak and stainless steel, providing a broad and complex chardonnay with notes of citrus, cedar and spices. Perfect now but will age well too.
