More on the wine
There was only one name we wanted for our Anniversary Champagne: our longest-standing supplier, Alfred Gratien, purveyors of Society bubbles for more than 100 years of our shared history. Epernay is like the Bond Street of Champagne, full of the region’s big names. Gratien are quite small by comparison, but their size and their artisanal approach are a great fit for The Society.
Gratien’s chef de cave Nicolas Jaeger allowed us to be involved in the decisions on disgorgement timing and dosage, so that this 2012 cuvée would be unique for Society members. Having undergone its first fermentation in small ex-Burgundy barrels and had its malolactic fermentation restricted, the wine has layers of richness and tension. It was disgorged in 2020.
