More on the wine
While English sparkling has been world class for a number of years, it’s the still wines, especially chardonnay, that buyer Matthew Horsley believes will make England a major player in the world of wine in the coming years. It is made for us by Simpsons based in the beautiful Elham Valley just outside Canterbury. Ruth and Charles Simpson were quick to see the potential of the terroir here and had the foresight to plant Burgundian clones on their south-facing vineyards which are better suited to still wine production. They are one of the few English wineries making both still and sparkling wines to a high level. It is their pioneering spirit and determination to reshape the image of English wine which attracted us to them for this project.
