Timorasso, Boveri Luigi 2023

White Wine from Italy - Piedmont
4.500000000 star rating 4 Reviews
From an Italian producer focused on the production of timorasso, this has an immediate and gorgeous intensity on the palate of white and yellow peach, orchard fruit and Alpine herbs, with a beautiful salty freshness on the long finish. This is quite full-bodied and rich, balanced with refreshing acidity. Luigi Boveri was one of a small number of pioneers who put the historic, indigenous timorasso grape firmly back on the map, in the latter part of the twentieth century. Try it with sweet-fleshed shellfish like king or tiger prawns, langoustine and lobster, or a crab tart.

As usual, that slightly metallic/burnished quality. Lots of fruit, too, as well as interest. Should have considerable appeal as it’s a wine with great general fruit and attraction.

Hailing from Piedmont, Timorasso is one of Italy’s best kept secrets: a spellbinding variety with bags of ripe peachiness and fascinating herbal complexity. The variety, which almost vanished, can be heady in the wrong hands but this example, from a pioneering producer who’s worked tirelessly to put it back on the wine map, has bright acidity to balance the plump stone fruit, so it’s a good one for spaghetti vongole.
