Wines included
Wente Vineyards Beyer Ranch Zinfandel 2022
A gloriously food-friendly Wine Champion, this is ‘a lighter expression’ of California zin from the Livermore Valley, whose ’menthol, freshness, herbs, freshness and balance’ were all noted with high approval and high scores. Bright, juicy and poised with inviting blueberry fruit, excellent complexity and moreish elegance.
District 7 Monterey Pinot Noir 2024
A great pinot from Monterey in California, where the vines benefit from the cooling winds and fogs from the Pacific. This is a vibrant redcurrant and cranberry-fruited wine, with a little balancing oak and a fresh finish. We are supporting Scheid, through our 2024 Climate & Nature fund in their efforts to obtain Bee Friendly Farming (BFF) Certification, offered by Pollinator Partnership. This project aims to support Scheid in planting and creating habitats and food for native bee colonies.
McManis Family Petite Sirah 2024
This plum, blackberry and vanilla-rich California red has a very loyal following among members who enjoy its generous, powerful and full-bodied charms.
Bogle Vineyards California Merlot 2023
Bursting with ripe red-plum and cherry fruit, this velvety, full-bodied, well-balanced California merlot also offers sweet anise, spicy clove, and vanilla on the finish. This has all the attributes to partners a burger with all thre trimmings up to and including pulled pork and/or barbecure sauce.
Lone Birch Yakima Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2024
We’ve long thought Washington State cabernets deserve more airtime than they get, and the performance of this wine in a competitive 2026 Wine Champions cabernet line-up bears this out. Described by our blind tasters as ‘unforced, elegant and classically structured’, and with a refreshing herbal character, this is well worth your attention.
The Society's California Old-Vine Zinfandel 2024
Classic zinfandel from California, with cherry and sarsaparilla on the nose, wild strawberry and redcurrant coming through on the full yet soft palate and sweet vanilla and mixed spice on the finish. On the palate, it`s full-bodied and satisfying, and makes a great partner for Mediterranean-style cooking, grilled meats, dishes where herbs play a prominent role, burgers or even curry: the perfect house red! Fruit from old bush vines is used to make this wine, yielding less but with grapes of higher concentration. These gnarled and knotted old vines are more abundant in California than almost anywhere else in the world and deserve their place on the label of our zin.
