Red Wine from Portugal - Dao
Of the two top Villa Oliveira wines this is the deeper and more muscular expression, yet it still retains the ethereal lift and elegance that defines great Dão. Drawn from a wide mix of old native varieties planted in the Pedras Altas vineyards, on Serra da Estrela granite soils, it opens with black olive tapenade, woodland herbs, mushroom and a delicately balsamic complexity. The palate is silky and medium bodied despite its depth, showing dark chocolate, red berries and earthy spice framed by fine tannins and fresh acidity. Fermented in cement with extended maceration and aged 18 months in cask, this is a superb example of classic fine Dão.
