Weingut Jülg Crémant Brut NV

5.000000000 star rating 1 Reviews
One of the star turns of our sparkling tasting in this year's Wine Champions and duly voted a Champ, from an estate that borders Germany (Pfalz) and France (Alsace) with grapes from both sides going into the blend. A ‘terrific wine’ described as ‘serious and racy’ with a combination of ‘salt, apples and preserved lemons.’ Pure, classy and a great bargain.

This is a family estate based in the southern Palatinate, right on the border with Alsace. Indeed, the border as it was finally drawn in 1945 actually cuts through their vineyards so that half of their vines are actually in France and overlook the lovely Alsace town of Wissembourg! The wine styles here reflect all that is best in today's Germany: dry, fruity wines from a raft of different grape varieties.

Very slightly sweaty on the nose. Tastes sweeter than it is – because of the Pinot Blanc’s low acid? JancisRobinson.com
