Cruz de Piedra Garnacha, Calatayud 2024

A floral, vibrant Spanish red which is fresh, fruity and plump with a touch of spice and delightful bush herb fragrance. A lovely introduction to the flavour of unoaked garnacha. Boden Bodegas is like an oasis of life in a region where bare soils and liberal herbicide use are the norm, where neighbours think you’re a bad farmer if they see one weed on your farm. Louis Geirnaerdt, the energetic and inspiring owner of Bodem Bodegas, is on a mission to change that outdated mindset. Support from the Climate and Nature programme will help his team transition even faster to regenerative viticulture so they can demonstrate to their neighbours how farming with nature instead of against it can be more profitable and produce even better wine. It will help fund new natural composting systems, the planting of a range of crops between the vine rows to provide natural sun protection and nutrients for the soil, and the use of a ‘direct seeder’ so they don’t need to plough, a practice that damages the soil. This project is about leadership, showing the way to more natural, profitable and resilient farming.

The Society's Claret 2024

This friendly and fresh-tasting claret is one of The Wine Society`s most consistently popular wines. Supplied for over a quarter of a century by family-owned Maison Sichel, the bespoke blend varies from vintage to vintage, but merlot takes the lead role, and the wine is made without any oak to avoid masking its bright, red and black-fruit flavours. This is made to be drunk young, on its own or with a wide variety of dishes. The label for this perennial favourite shows three muses that can also be seen on the Grand Theatre opera house in Bordeaux itself.

Ravasqueira 'Bairro de Cal' Tinto, Lisboa 2023

This little red really captures the easy-going charm and fruit-forward style of Lisboa. A blend of syrah (aka shiraz). touriga nacional, alicante bouschet and tinta roriz, this is lifted and juicy on the nose. There's a nice combination of black berry and blueberry fruit, a lovely touch of earthiness and bright aromatic spices. The palate is medium bodied and easy-drinking, with silky tannins, freshness and authentic Lisboa charm. Honest, friendly and crowd pleasing red at a super price.

Tarantino Primitivo Segnavento, Pervini 2024

Primitivo is a great Italian anyday red grape variety, here creating a wine that has flavours of ripe blackberry fruit, plum compote, and sun-ripened fig, a medium body and refreshing finish. This is a super option for enjoyment with or without food.
