WWF Summer French Classic Reds Case
Wines included
Saumur Champigny Clos des Cordeliers Cuvée Prestige, Domaine Ratron 2018
Now mature cabernet franc from a wonderful vintage for reds in the Loire that produced well-structured but succulent wines with generous fruit. The Ratron family have been in Champigny for four generations, with Marie-Françoise Ratron-Galet the current custodian and winemaker.
Cabardès Terroirs d'Altitude, Château de Pennautier 2021
Cabardès has to include both Rhône and Bordeaux varieties, and 2021 was an outstanding vintage for this wine. It displays wonderful balance of fruit, tannin and oak, delivering ripe, dark fruit character with a hint of pepper on the finish. The 2021 is a blend of merlot and syrah, with cabernet sauvignon and grenache in support.
Château Pey La Tour Réserve, Bordeaux Superieur 2022
Easily one of the best Pey La Tour we`ve tasted from this model estate in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers. For a wine so modestly priced, it offers tremendous bang for your buck. Predominantly merlot (90%) it has inky purple colour and ripe, concentrated fruit with great poise and length. Punches well above its weight, as always.
