I am delighted to introduce the new vintage of the superb wines from Château Montus and Château Bouscassé to order en primeur, including a white for the very first time.
Alain Brumont hardly needs introducing. Without his presence and foresight, Madiran would not have developed in the same way. He has been its ambassador, preaching Madiran and the tannat grape around the world. His two estates in Madiran are on different soils and, not surprisingly, produce quite different wines. Bouscassé on clay and gravel, makes a wine that is tightly structured, while Montus, superbly exposed and on heavier clays with large stones, is more opulent, even voluptuous. The wines are all aged in barrel with a greater percentage of new oak for Montus, reflecting that wine’s greater density. All will have been aged for 30 months before bottling.
Order by midday on 20th October
2022 is another hot vintage, a vintage of superlatives and blazingly good results. What’s surprising about the vintage is the freshness in the wines and a fine sense of balance without the very high alcohol levels of some previous hot vintages. The fruit character is extraordinary, savoury and satisfyingly long.
These are wonderful wines for laying down and will provide much pleasure over the next 20 years.
