This year's blend of tempranillo with small proportions of mazuelo and graciano is composed of a base of Contino Reserva-level fruit, predominantly from the San Gregorio estate, with 15% sourced from the prized Contino del Olivo single vineyard, adding structure, depth and polish to the wine. The hallmark of 943 is its perfumed aromas of thyme and mountain herbs, layered with succulent dark forest fruits and ripe plum, underpinned by broad, granular tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of cocoa, tobacco and vanilla emerge from 18 months' ageing in 225-litre barrels, predominantly French oak (95%) with a small proportion of American oak (5%). Together, these elements give the wine both balance and excellent ageing potential. Recently bottled, the wine will now rest in Contino's cool cellars until its release next year, when it will qualify as a Reserva. Drink from 2029 to 2040. 14%
