First release: Giant Steps 2025

Circle of Fifths Chardonnay brings together fruit from Giant Steps' single-vineyard sites and in doing so seemingly captures the strengths of each. The result is a wine which feels remarkably complete from the outset. Aromas of white peach, lemon zest and ripe nectarine are joined by notes of roasted cashew, oatmeal and a delicate flinty character. The warm and dry conditions of 2025 have added an extra layer of fruit concentration, giving the wine a little more generosity than usual, but there is still plenty of freshness and precision. The palate is seamless and layered, with citrus, stone fruit and subtle savoury complexity building towards a long, mineral finish. Beautifully balanced and already incredibly appealing, this is a superb expression of both the vintage and the Giant Steps house style. Drink this year to 2036. 13%

The Circle of Fifths wines were created to showcase the harmony that can be achieved by bringing together fruit from Giant Steps' five single-vineyard sites. Rather than blurring the distinctions between them, this seems to amplify their strengths. The 2025 is wonderfully complete, opening with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry, alongside delicate floral notes, sweet spice and a subtle savoury edge. The growing season has brought an extra layer of fruit generosity, but there is still plenty of freshness and energy. The palate is silky and seamless, with bright red fruits, fine tannins and beautifully integrated oak combining to create a wine which feels greater than the sum of its parts. Perhaps the most graceful of the Giant Steps single-vineyard chardonnays, this opens with aromas of citrus blossom, lime zest and green apple, accompanied by delicate notes of wet stone, oatmeal and subtle sea-spray character. The elevated east-facing slopes of Applejack Vineyard in the Upper Yarra have a remarkable ability to preserve freshness and detail, qualities that shine brightly in the warm 2025 vintage. The palate is sleek and fine, with flavours of lemon curd, crisp orchard fruit and grapefruit pith along a crystalline line of acidity. Subtle savoury notes emerge with air, adding complexity to an already captivating wine. Long, poised and detailed, this is a superb expression of both site and vintage. Drink this year to 2038. 13%

One of the newest additions to the Giant Steps portfolio, this celebrated Gladysdale vineyard has quickly established itself as a source of chardonnay with real purity and site expression. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon curd and white peach are layered with hints of flint, crushed stone and almond cream. The warm, dry conditions of the vintage have brought an extra degree of fruit concentration. Volcanic red soils and the vineyard's elevated position bring a distinctly mineral character, carrying the palate towards a long, saline finish. There is plenty of intensity here, but it arrives in a finely etched and measured frame, with citrus, nectarine and subtle savoury notes unfolding gradually with air. Produced in tiny quantities, this is a poised and ageworthy release that should develop beautifully over the next decade. Drink this year to 2041. 13.2%

Bastard Hill is rapidly establishing itself as one of the stars of the Giant Steps range and it's easy to see why. The nose is wonderfully complex, with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry sitting alongside bergamot, sweet spice and a distinctive stony minerality. Planted at up to 400 metres above sea level in Gladysdale, this steep and windswept site consistently produces wines with both perfume and structure. There's an extra layer of fruit concentration, but the vineyard's altitude ensures the wine remains fresh, focused and full of energy. The palate is beautifully detailed, with pure red-berry fruit, subtle earthiness and finely woven tannins carrying through to a long, mineral finish. There is a real sense of completeness here, combining elegance, intensity and persistence in equal measure. Quantities remain tiny and demand is likely to be strong. Drink this year to 2041. 13.8%

Primavera continues to hit a lovely sweet spot in the Giant Steps range, sitting somewhere between the perfume and lift of Applejack and the deeper fruit profile of some of the warmer Yarra Valley sites. The nose is immediately appealing, with aromas of cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, joined by white pepper and a delicate floral note which seems to be a hallmark of this vineyard. Planted in Woori Yallock at around 240 metres above sea level, the site benefits from both freshness and ripeness, something that shines through in this warmer vintage. The palate is supple and silky, with bright red fruits flowing across a finely structured frame. There is plenty of charm here, but also a seriousness and persistence which emerges on the long, spice-laced finish. Beautifully balanced and thoroughly delicious. Drink this year to 2042. 14%

There is an impressive sense of concentration here, with aromas of citrus rind, oatmeal, grilled nuts and flint unfolding alongside notes of nectarine and apricot. Planted on a rugged north-facing slope in Gruyere, Sexton consistently produces one of the most powerful and structured chardonnays in the Giant Steps range, thanks to its shallow soils and naturally low yields. The warm, dry conditions of 2025 have amplified that intensity, delivering fruit of remarkable depth without sacrificing freshness. The palate is tightly wound and mineral, with layers of lemon pith, stone fruit and subtle savoury complexity wrapped around a firm core of acidity. 20% malolactic fermentation contributes texture rather than richness, allowing the vineyard's natural energy and persistence to shine through. A serious and ageworthy wine that should reward patience. Drink this year to 2040. 13%

Fragrant and inviting, this Yarra Valley pinot noir bursts with aromas of ripe cherry, wild strawberry and rose petal, supported by subtle notes of spice and dried herbs. Drawing on fruit from vineyards across the valley, including a significant proportion from the Upper Yarra, it combines perfume and freshness with impressive depth and generosity. The excellent 2025 vintage has delivered particularly expressive fruit, lending an extra layer of concentration while preserving the brightness and energy that define both the region and the variety. Juicy raspberry, blood plum and redcurrant flavours flow across the palate, framed by silky tannins and a gentle savoury edge. We have worked closely with Giant Steps to secure a lower price for this vintage, giving more members the opportunity to enjoy one of Australia's benchmark pinot noir producers in an outstanding year. Applejack always stands out for its aromatic lift and in 2025 that perfume is once again dialled right up. Wild strawberry, raspberry and rose petal leap from the glass, backed by darker cherry fruit, sweet spice and a subtle savoury edge. Planted on an east-facing slope at 300 metres above sea level in Gladysdale, this is one of the highest vineyards in the Giant Steps range and that altitude brings a freshness and energy which defines the wine. The warm growing season has added an extra layer of fruit generosity, but the palate remains focused and precise. Layers of crunchy red berries, plum and blood orange are wrapped around fine tannins and bright acidity, while hints of sea spray and spice emerge on the long finish. Fragrant, complex and effortlessly drinkable, this is another superb release from a remarkable site. Drink this year to 2041. 13.5%

If Applejack is all about perfume and Primavera sits neatly in the middle, Sexton is the wine for those who like their pinot noir a little fuller and more structured. The nose is packed with dark cherry, plum and wild blackberry fruit, backed by notes of forest floor, dried herbs and a subtle soy-like savoury character. Planted on north-facing slopes between 130 and 210 metres above sea level, Sexton is naturally one of the warmer sites in the Giant Steps range and the 2025 vintage has suited it beautifully. The palate is generous and velvety, with layers of dark and red fruit supported by soft tannins and a gentle thread of acidity. There is an appealing earthiness throughout and a touch of salinity on the finish which keeps everything fresh and draws you back for another sip. Rich, satisfying and full of character. Drink this year to 2042. 13.8%

Sourced from carefully selected vineyards across the Yarra Valley, this is a superb introduction to the Giant Steps style and a wine that consistently overdelivers. The warm, dry and early 2025 vintage has brought an extra layer of fruit generosity and concentration, yet the wine remains beautifully poised and refreshing. Fermentation in French oak barrels adds texture and complexity without overshadowing the purity of fruit. Juicy citrus and ripe stone-fruit flavours glide across the palate, underpinned by a fine mineral thread and bright acidity. We have worked closely with Giant Steps to secure a lower price for this vintage, allowing more members to enjoy one of Australia's finest chardonnay producers in an outstanding year.
