I’m delighted to offer members our second First Release from Mas Doix, one of Priorat’s most exciting estates and a name that has quickly established itself among this Spanish region’s very best. Now recognised as a modern icon of Priorat, Mas Doix is producing wines that range from the vibrant, red-fruited and pure Poboleda Vi de Vila to the structured and complex Salanques, culminating in their flagship Doix, a wine of depth, longevity and poise with impressive ageing capability.

Priorat is one of Spain’s most dramatic wine regions, a rugged landscape of steep, slate-covered hillsides where gnarled old vines cling to the famous llicorella soils. It is here, in the village of Poboleda, that brothers Valentí and Ramon Llagostera, together with the Doix family, revived the family vineyards in the late 1990s.
Their simple goal is to focus purely on the land, allowing Priorat’s soils and indigenous varieties, garnacha and cariñena, to express their character, coaxing pure, mineral elegance from vines between 80 and 120 years old. The family champion cariñena, which thrives in Priorat’s extreme conditions of hot Mediterranean days and cool mountain nights, for the structure, elegance and length that it brings.
The 2023 vintage of flagship ‘Doix’ resulted in a powerful and expressive vintage, shaped by dry, warm conditions, with crucial rainfall in May and June revitalising the vines after a challenging start. These are top-notch Priorats not to be missed.
