The release of the Van Loggerenberg 2025s marks a special anniversary – a decade since these wines arrived on the scene. These are among the most delicious and compelling wines coming out of South Africa today.
We drove away from tasting Lukas van Loggerenberg’s 2025s in February in something close to a state of reverie. I could still taste the last wine in the line-up and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I didn’t believe Lukas could top his 2024s, in truth – or at least not so soon – but his 2025s are truly spectacular. It’s a vintage any lover of South African wines has to own.

As Lukas said, 2025 is ‘such an impeccable vintage’ (and not just in Stellenbosch, nor just for Bordeaux varieties). It’s a vintage of pristine clarity and gorgeous fruit density; and the relatively long hang times the cooler season facilitated have delivered wines which are already layered with complexity.
What Lukas and Roxanne van Loggerenberg have achieved since their debut 2016 vintage is quite astonishing; a retrospective tasting two months ago (which included full verticals of both Breton cabernet franc and Graft syrah) effortlessly showed the inherent calibre of the wines as well as the direction of travel. (It warrants a dedicated write-up, in fact – watch this space!)
