Altano Tinto Reserva, Douro 2022

Red Wine from Portugal - Douro Valley
0 star rating 0 Reviews
Opening up with intense black-cherry, bramble fruit and wild plum aromas this is immediately notably powerful and intense but the hint of lavender and violets brings lift and prettiness. There are also hints of sweet oak spice in the wine's youth which will integrate more with age. All of this draws you into the glass. On the palate, the wine is medium-full bodied and really nicely balanced. The fruit is bold yet refined, with juicy blackberry and dark cherry notes, which are supported by a core of minerality and a gentle herbal lift. The tannins are fine and structured, giving a firm backbone without overt grippiness. Acidity is fresh and lively, keeping the wine bright and driving it through to an elegant finish. The mid-palate has a real juiciness and depth to it which promises to unveil many more layers as the wine matures. The finish shows a lingering touch of dark chocolate, gentle spice and a saline edge that echoes the underlying schist terroir. This will mature beautifully but is also a wine that's approachable in its youth. The primary fruit may soften further, and tertiary notes of undergrowth, tobacco and leather will start to emerge after a few years in bottle. Decant if drinking young, to get the most out of this delicious bottle
