Bodegas Tihom THM Blanco, Rioja 2024
After spending more than 20 years heading up the winemaking at the family Muga winery, Jorge Muga started his own very personal project, Tihom, which focuses on small production and historical Rioja grapes such as garnacha blanca, graciano, mazuelo and maturana. THM blanco is 95% garnacha blanca with a splash of maturana, sourced from cool, high altitude vineyards on the slopes of the Obarenes Mountains. Garnacha blanca, a historical but far less common white grape of the region is naturally suited to warm climates and is very resilient to adverse conditions and climate change. The wine is part fermented in new oak and stainless steel, with a further four months in oak. Finally, it is matured further for another four months in concrete before bottling. The result is a ripe, tropical and fruit-forward white, with hints of peach, lemon and a touch of patisserie spice. Fresh, vivid with a touch of creaminess.
