Château Batailley, Pauillac 2016
This deservedly popular property used a high proportion of perfectly ripe cabernet sauvignon (85%) this year – often a clear sign of a great vintage in Bordeaux’s most lauded appellation. Lovely texture with fine-grained tannins and a polished sweetness on the palate. A delicious Batailley with a long and promising future.
Château du Tertre, Margaux 2016
From vines located on the highest point of the Margaux plateau, du Tertre has made a fine-boned wine, with appealing freshness and nicely judged oak. 75% cabernet sauvignon 10% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. 2021–2033.
Château Latour Martillac, Pessac-Léognan 2016
A château that continues to make excellent-value wines. The 2016 is a succulent blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot and 8% petit verdot, and delivers pronounced notes of cassis and tobacco on the nose with appetising, layered fruit on the palate.
