Catherine Marshall Pinot Noir on Clay Soils, Cape South Coast 2024

Red Wine from South Africa - Cape South Coast
0 star rating 0 Reviews
From grapes grown on clay soils in the cooler Cape South Coast – sites in both Elgin and the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge – this is a beautiful, sumptuously-textured pinot from Cathy Marshall. Silky tannins glide across the palate, which displays succulent red plum, damson and black cherry fruit and a saline savouriness on the long finish. This has all of Cathy's characteristic purity of expression and subtle oak integration, and will age beautifully if you can resist it now.

Catherine Marshall Wines

Cathy Marshall is well known throughout the South African wine industry, generous with her advice both officially and unofficially, and now one of the leading lights in the relatively new Elgin region.

She started bottling her own wines in 1997, and her style is understated, lending itself well to the cooler climate of the Elgin valley, where longer hang time for the grapes allows ripeness without excessive alcohol or unripe tannins. Pinot noir is a long-term passion, but sauvignon blanc, merlot, and now chenin blanc are her main focus, made at shared winery Valley Green.
