Cote du Jura Savagnin Ouillé Petit Chapeau, Domaine La Grapp' A 2023
Domaine La Grapp’A is an exciting and dynamic estate that was set up by a young couple who started the project from the 2021 vintage. Aurelie Parla and Julien Maublanc have only seven hectares and are based just outside of Arbois. Previously Julien’s family sold the grapes to the local co-operative, and although they worked organically for over 15 years, Julien’s philosophy is different. They are moving to biodynamics and are passionate about agroforestry, having livestock on the farm as well as developing oeno-tourism, with a yurt on site, and planting truffle trees. This savagnin ouillé (meaning with barrels kept topped up and made like a traditional white wine) comes from the En Rougemont plot that is planted at 400-metres altitude on red marl soils. The wine spends two years in barrel prior to bottling. There is plenty of energy with a citrus and grapefruit pith core. Hints of wild herbs continue on the finish of this focused white.
