Michael Opitz Merlot-Zweigelt-Blaufränkisch NV
Red Wine from Austria - Burgenland
A simply delicious, incredibly juicy, easy-going red from a quality and sustainability-focused producer. This is a non-vintage blend of merlot with local grapes zweigelt and blaufränkisch; and the clever blending of vintages has resulted in a wine that combines youthful freshness, with mature plumpness and generosity. There is a lovely combination of blackcurrant, cherry and juicy blueberry on the nose with a nice underlying hint of nutmeg. It changes every time you put your nose in the glass, which is amazing for a wine at this price! The palate is beautifully balanced, with a lovely, rounded, fleshy mid-palate matched perfectly with crispness and mouthwatering freshness. There's so much to love in this modest little wine. It's produced as a humble house red but punches way above its weight. No nonsense and lots of fun, it’s a great option for a reliable, easy-going and charming red to pull out on any occasion!
