If you picked up a great Burgundian producer and put them down in the Burgenland region of Austria, you would have Roland Velich. Roland is committed to demonstrating micro-climate terroir through the medium of blaufränkisch. This example comes from vineyards in the small village of Lutzmannsburg and is exclusive to us in the UK. The nose is elegant, with graphite, black cherry, plum and dried herbs. The palate shows a delicious mixture of red and black fruit, with great breadth of flavour, sewn together perfectly by a fine and fresh bead of acidity. Roland is something of a cult hero in Austrian wine, so it's wonderful to be able to bring this label in exclusively for Society members.
