Piedra Fluida Magec Tenerife 2023

Red Wine from Spain - Canary Islands & Balearics
3.266666700 star rating 15 Reviews
A rare and deeply personal wine from Tenerife’s extraordinary 2023 vintage. Produced in the wake of the island’s worst wildfires in 40 years, this graceful red, with notes of wild cherry with lavender and white pepper, mineral and tense, is a testament to resilience. Made from a blend of local red listán negro and white listán blanco, the old vines lend unexpected structure and tension beneath the joyful fruit. This one-off cuvée brings together all the rescued grapes from the estate including fruit that would normally go into their premium bottlings—uniting select parcels from the fire-affected north with those from the less-impacted south. In a further act of solidarity, €1 from every bottle supports reforestation efforts on the island. A wine with heart, story, and spirit and utterly delicious.

Piedra Fluida Majec 2023 is a wildly spicy, vivacious herb - macerated example made from old vines of red listán negro and white listán blanco on the volcanic soils of Tenerife.

Another funky choice that explores the increasingly fluid boundaries between wine colours, this near-50-50 co-fermented blend of Listán Negro and Blanco from old vines on southern Tenerife is also terrific value. Intensely gluggable with its sour cherry-berry but with an attractive wildness to the acidity and grippy tannin, too.

Glowing, shaded ruby. Rich and toasty. So satisfying! As much chew on the end as a skin-contact wine after really pure, gorgeous fruit. All in a very good cause and GV. JancisRobinson.com

Eat This, Drink That

Another wine that might be classified as ‘natural’. Made from local grape varieties. Bright, delicious and juicy.
