Pinot Noir, Danbury Ridge, Essex 2022

Red Wine from England - Essex
4.250000000 star rating 4 Reviews
The warm 2022 vintage, as well as the low rainfall, have produced a deep and brooding pinot noir this year, with greater aromatic intensity and structure on the palate compared to the lighter, more ethereal 2021. Blackberry and dark cherry dominate on the nose, with hints of baking spices and forest floor. The palate is currently structured and youthful with coating finely-grained tannins giving grip to the finish, with appealing redcurrant bite. Already appealing this will reward another year-or-two in bottle to start developing more savoury character.

Britain’s best pinot noir comes from top spot Crouch Valley and is a gorgeous, gamey, rose-scented gem.

A wine to contradict any ideas about English reds being thin and watery. This is full of rich , ripe blackberries and concentrated black cherries, alongside a sweet cinnamon and smoky edge. It was a warm vintage in the UK, and you can certainly feel the Costa del Crouch sunshine in your glass.
