Pinot Noir V, Muré 2015
V stands for Vorbourg, one of 51 Alsace grands crus but which, for the time being at least, does not apply to pinot noir. While still young in this fine vintage, it is beginning to open up to some secondary aroma and flavour complexity to complement its dark cherry fruit and sweet, silky texture, better revealed in a decanter.

Domaine Muré
Muré is an important house in southern Alsace with origins going back to 1650. Today the 12th generation is in charge making wines biodynamically and with a particular strength in red wines.
The cellars and tasting room are just outside the town of Rouffach, south of Colmar. Historically this area which is particularly dry and sunny was far better known for its reds than its whites and that tradition continues today. Softly spoken and thoughtful René Muré has passed the baton to his two children, Véronique (sales and management) and Thomas (winemaking), though he is never far away, especially at harvest time.
The jewel in their crown is the famous Clos Saint Landelin. This vineyard is situated within the grand cru Vorbourg, and was named after an Irish saint who reputedly settled here in the ninth century to preach the gospel. Most varieties do well here but the best is probably pinot noir; so much so that it is likely that red wines will be among the first to be granted grand cru status.
