Restless River Klein Hemel Chardonnay, Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley 2024
White Wine from South Africa - Cape South Coast
Still relatively new to the Restless River range, the Klein Hemel - which effectively means 'a little slice of heaven' - chardonnay comes from the younger vines on Anne and Craig Wessels' Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley farm, planted between 2017 and 2020. Bright and pure, the 2024 vintage has an intense lemony character (lemon zest and lemon curd), subtly interwoven new French oak (around 20%, but with long light toasting), and a wonderful textural mouthfeel. The finish is beautifully persistent, with an underlying salty minerality - an amazing introduction to the wines from one of the standout producers of the Hemel-en-Aarde.
