Roam around the Rhône
Wines included
Gigondas Domaine du Cayron 2020
The three Faraud sisters share the work of making the family wine, which is raised in a mix of barrels and foudres of different sizes. The final blend is generously flavoured and true to its origins.
Crozes-Hermitage Les Picaudières, Domaine Rousset 2023
From the granite slopes behind Hermitage hill and benefitting from being harvested after close to 150mm of rainfall to give a juicy core. Plenty of red- and black-berry fruits, fleshy plum notes combined with black olives and a firm tannin structure.
Gigondas Les Jardinières, Domaine de Gour de Chaulé 2023
Paul Fumoso is now making the wine at this small Gigondas estate that has had three generations of women running it. Greeting us while wearing his slippers, he is obviously very at ease in the cellar. The wine is extremely floral with bright red-berry fruits and firm tannins that are supported by a fleshy core.
Saint-Joseph Rouge, Claude Marsanne 2023
This is a new grower to our Rhône range, but the Marsanne family have been grape growers for many generations and only in the 1970s did they stop selling the grapes to other wineries and bottled under their own label. They have some of the most highly sought after vineyards in the Saint-Joseph appellation, on the steep slopes in Mauves. The 2023 is bright, appealing and juicy with lots of spice and chalky, fine tannins. This red is extremely well made and delicious to drink.
Vacqueyras Variation, Domaine de Montvac 2023
Voted a Wine Champion 2026, the ‘refined, textured, fleshy, satisfying and powerful’ profile of this full, spicy southern Rhône grenache makes it a barbecue all-rounder par excellence. Its brambles, garrigue and liquorice notes will work with any grilled glories you’d care to throw its way.
Les Jardins, Côtes du Rhône Villages Séguret, Domaine Adrien Emond 2025
This is a very exciting new addition to our well-established Rhône range with the first ever vintage of a young winemaking talent, Adrien Emond. Adrien has worked at some of the most prestigious wine estates in Burgundy including Domaine Cécile Tremblay, François Carillon and Faiveley as well as Santa Duc in Gigondas. He is now working at Beaumes de Venise estate Château les Applanats and having fallen in love with this diverse region was passionate about creating his own project. This Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Séguret comes from 2.3 hectares of vineyards planted to grenache, syrah, and Mourvèdre and from vines with 50+ years of age. Adrien is working using organic practices and working to the lunar calendar with the aim of working biodynamically in the future. A non-interventionist approach is followed with an extended cold fermentation (over a month) using native yeasts, with light pump overs and punch downs and minimal sulphur addition. Whole-cluster fermentation (20%) gives an attractive floral lift and tannin grip. The wine is aged for eight months, of which just over a third is in Burgundian demi-muid barrels. This red is bursting with red and blackberry fruits, sour cherries with hints of mint, thyme and rosemary. Wildflowers combine with savoury spice notes with a juicy core and a chalky tannin grip.
